2010-01-22 Condolences to Hanlon family
Message sent by Cliff Cox
It is with a very heavy and sad heart that I advise the passing of one of our closest cricket pals, Peter Hanlon. He passed away peacefully in Royal Columbian Hospital.... New Westminster at 8.30am today at age 66. Those of you who knew him no doubt have spent many joyous times being entertained by his humour and happy spirit...........an absolutely delightful gentleman and good cricketer for many years with Vancouver Cricket Club.

2009-11-09 Help Save Memorial
The Vancouver Park Board did have a series of neighbourhood meetings in September. VPB staff will be reporting next week, so there is really just this week to get people to voice their opinions. If Memorial South Park is to be selected, the oval is NOT the best location. Park Board should be looking at a different location ? perhaps the NW field, for example. Cricket is in a special circumstance with Memorial Oval being the only field in East Van for cricketers to play. This has to be considered by the decision-makers.

Please sign the petition and send email to save Memorial. Thanks in advance for your support.
The petition is created at http://www.PetitionOnline.com/VFSUsers/petition.html
You can also e-mail the Park Board as a group at pbcomment@vancouver.ca or e-mail individual commissioners. The list is here: http://vancouver.ca/parks/board/commissioners.htm
The Park Board staff member who will report next week to the board can be e-mailed: mark.vulliamy@vancouver.ca [Petition]

2009-11-05 BCMCL AGM 2009 Updates
On Tuesday 3rd of November the 2009 AGM of the BCMCL was held At Brockton Pavilion. 90 members attended the meeting which commenced shortly after 7pm as scheduled. The President in his report congratulated everyone on a great season were cricket had been enjoyed by all clubs. However he did emphasised that a greater effort must be made next season to full fill the umpiring assignments and that members must be encouraged to take the level 1 umpiring course . The comments from the members were positive and reflected a very healthy situation with the league.
The Treasurer gave his report showing that the league had indeed recovered from the financial losses of last year, and in fact the league has shown a small profit for the year.
The Honorary president Rod Hesp and Honorary vice president Bill Simms were both re appointed.

A constitutional change to have the voting structure to be one vote per club was defeated.

A constitutional change with regards all monies submitted for application to register teams and or new clubs and payment for cricket balls would no longer be refundable in all cases.
The motion was approved.

The election for 2nd vice president of the league had 3 candidates, Jim Richard the 2nd VP from last year, Vibert Jack from Coquitlam Windies and Sarabjit Gill from Arbutus. In a very close result Mr Gill was elected. Thanks were given to Jim for his work this year.
Vimal Hardat was elected by acclamation for the position of President.
The meeting closed at 9:15 pm in an orderly manner.

Thanks go to all members for making the meeting a great success

Thanks to Jim Richards (out going 2nd VP) for his hard work during his tenure.

2008-06-13 Use Of Parks
The Parks Board is committed to providing the cricketers of Lower Mainland with quality park and recreational opportunities in a safe, healthy and enjoyable environment. To fulfill this commitment they have instilled a lot of faith in the British Columbia Mainland Cricket League who have further given this ground to its responsible members. The Code simply requires that members of the BCMCL must conduct themselves in a rational and reasonable manner, in accordance with the rules and regulations established by the Park Board of each municipality. We play cricket that is quite rightly called a gentleman's game and we should be very careful in maintaining the trust that the Parks board of different municipality has kept with the BCMCL for almost 100 years.
Here is the link to parks policy in details.
